What exactly is ozone depletion?

Technically, ozone depletion is the destruction of the stratospheric ozone layer, which shields the earth from ultraviolet radiation. This destruction is caused by the breakdown of certain chlorine and/or bromine-containing compounds (chlorofluorocarbons or halons) that catalytically destroy ozone molecules in the stratosphere.

In English, ozone depletion is the destruction of the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful some of the more harmful aspects of the sun. It's caused by compounds called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

Get it? Good. This site is designed to help you better understand ozone depletion, what we can do to help it stop, things we can do to protect ourselves, and things like that. Take a look around. Learn something, maybe?
